SULLIVAN

Thomas S. Joy, 45, passed away at his home on Aug. 29 after losing his battle with COPD and hypertension.

Thom was born on Sept. 27, 1973, the son of Libby Joy and Russell Sargent. He graduated from Sumner Memorial High School in 1992. He had spent some time in Florida and Virginia, but Thom was pretty much a lifelong Mainer, living most of his time in Sullivan.

He was predeceased by his brother, David Martin, and his loving mother, Libby Joy, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year. Thom is survived by his two children, Dylan and Justice Joy, his dad, Russell, twin brother Tim, brother Donnie, sisters Doddie and Diane and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thom grew up, along with his twin brother, enjoying cars and motorcycles and being a lifelong Tar Heels fan, which sprouted a healthy rivalry with his son Dylan, who is a Michigan State fan. Thom was a laid-back guy who was kind and loving and who will be greatly missed by his family as well as his many friends.

A celebration of life will be held at the David A. Hooper Lodge at 132 Bert Gray Road in Sullivan on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 5-7 p.m.
