ELLSWORTH

Kenneth Alton Poors passed away Sept. 6, 2019, at 71 years young at home due to cancer. He was surrounded by his family and pets to send him off into the next world to adventure upon.

He was born May 23, 1948, and a Vietnam veteran who served his country from 1968-1970. Ken worked for the town of Mount Desert for 26 years as its public works supervisor and retired in 2013. Ken held fond memories of those he worked with.

Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Christine H. Poors, daughter Donda L. Young and husband, Wayne, and daughter Kandace L. Carlin. Ken was the president and headmaster of Grump School to three remarkable grandchildren, Trea Alexander Young, Samantha Denise Carlin and Brian Michael Carlin. Ken is also survived by his youngest brother Peter Poors and Aunt Arleen Poors Nickerson. He has many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends, all of whom will miss his kind yet grumpy disposition, smile and warm hugs.

Ken decided against services and will have a “Poors style” celebration of life in the spring on his birthday. The family will hold a small gathering on Sept. 21 between 1 and 4 p.m. at Ken’s home to allow closure to those closest to him. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the ASPCA of Ellsworth.
