ELLSWORTH

B. Joanne Dority, 88, passed away at home on Aug. 1. She was born April 5, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Everett and Marjorie (Morris) Pollard.

Joanne was an employee of Hancock County for 27 years and registrar of deeds for 18 of those years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.

She was an avid Granger. As a member of the Mariaville Grange No. 441 for 73 years, she held many of the offices during her lifetime. She was also a member of Green Mountain Pomona No. 26 and the Maine State Grange and held many offices there as well.

Joanne was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls and served as deaconess. She was a charter member of the Tri-Town Garden Club and loved participating in all of its activities.

In her younger years, she enjoyed quilting, square dancing, snowmobiling, traveling, and was an excellent deer hunter. Joanne grew up on Beech Hill Pond in Otis and had many great memories and stories to tell of her childhood at the lake. She spent many summer weekends at her camp lot with her husband, Arthur, and children, barbecuing, swimming and just having lots of fun. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing Scrabble, cribbage and reading westerns. Later grandchildren and great-grandchildren got to enjoy the same fun times with her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We will all greatly miss her.

Joanne was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Arthur Dority, and brother, Morris Pollard. She is survived by four children: Stephen Dority and wife, Linda; Sheldon Dority and companion, Lee McWilliams; Yvonne Saunders and husband, Rod; and Scott Dority and wife, Linda; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brothers — John (Rick) Pollard, Bruce Pollard and Percy (Bud) Pollard.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28 at the Mariaville Grange Hall.
