MOUNT DESERT Caroline Greene Riefler, otherwise known as Susie, a resident of Hall Quarry in Mount Desert, passed away July 24, 2019, in her home. Caroline was born on Oct. 3, 1925, in NYC and lived in Hamden, Conn., prior to retiring and moving to Mount Desert in 1988.
Caroline is survived by her husband, David Riefler, daughters Karen Dugan Steverson and Jennifer Riefler, grandchildren Kevin Dugan, David Dugan, Tara Dugan, Kelly Dugan Finemore, Terrence Reid and Eric Reid, along with seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Thali Honeycutt.
Caroline was happily married to her husband, David, for 72 years. The two met during the fifth grade in Princeton, N.J., and were married on Aug. 3, 1946. Caroline taught special education in Connecticut for over 20 years and retired from the Orange, Conn., School System in 1988. She had always enjoyed painting and fine tuned her gift upon her retirement, continuing to paint until shortly before her death.
A celebration of life will be held, but has not been scheduled at this time.
