SURRY

Linda G. Peterson, 70, died peacefully at home surrounded by family July 14, 2019, after a 15-month battle with endometrial cancer. She was born Jan. 14, 1949, in Holden, Mass., the daughter of the late Arthur and Mavis Bixby.

Meeting her husband in medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, Linda completed her psychiatry residency and fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Her career spanned teaching roles at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and University of Massachusetts Medical School, working with veterans and others affected by PTSD at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, and in private practice in Rockport.

In addition to caring for her patients, Linda enjoyed raising a menagerie of animals, including horses, llamas, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, cats and dogs. She also loved being on the ocean in a kayak or otherwise; traveling extensively with family and friends; and would spin, knit, weave and, under her shop name Beading Babes, she would make intricate, colorful beaded jewelry. You would also find her spending time with her family playing a mean game of mah jong or pitch; playing one of her three acoustic guitars; singing; puzzling; or devouring science fiction novels.

She is survived by her husband, Kim; their son, Bixby, and his wife Lori of Princeton, Texas; their daughter, Sarah Pelletier, and her husband, Scott, of Ashland, Mass.; and grandsons Mitchell, Braden and Gabriel.

A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 11 White St., Rockland. Condolences may be expressed at www.acadiacremation.com.
