Lillian Olsen Thomas

Obit- Thomas_CASTINE – Lillian Olsen Thomas, 97, passed away on June 17, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. She was born on Aug. 27, 1918, to Henrik and Ragnhild Olsen.

Lillian spent most of her life in Wethersfield, Conn., and was involved in a number of community endeavors, including the League of Women Voters and the Connecticut Opera Guild. She advocated enthusiastically for the Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center and was an active member of the Wethersfield Garden Club for many years. At age 91, Lillian moved to Castine to be closer to her son and his family. She especially delighted in her great-grandchildren Caitlin and Will Tobey.

She is survived by her daughter Laura Thomas Sullivan (James) of Tucson, Ariz., and her son Robert S. Thomas (Barbara) of Castine.

She was predeceased by her husband John M. Thomas, her sister Eleanor Larson and her brother, Henry (Bud) Olsen.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Castine Fire Rescue Volunteer Association P.O. Box 602, Castine, ME 04421, Eleanor Buck Wolf Nature Center, 156 Prospect St., Wethersfield, CT 06109 or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777.

The family will hold a private memorial at a future date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, ME www.mitchelltweedie-young.com.
