Wayne Robert Allen

Obit- EA & ISL- Allen_SEDGWICK – Wayne Robert Allen, 86, passed away on June 17, 2016. He was born on April 4, 1930, in Blue Hill. He married the love of his life, Helaine Charlotte Allen, Nov. 13, 1952. Wayne spent his life working in the forestry and blueberry industries.

In his younger years, Wayne and his brother Kermit owned and managed Allen Brothers, a wooding, lumber and blueberry farming operation.

He was president of the family blueberry business, G.M. Allen & Son. The business originated as a cannery in North Sedgwick in 1912, and expanded in the early ’70s into the freezer operation in Orland.

Wayne attended Gould Academy, where he was an avid athlete and excelled in basketball and baseball. After graduating in 1947, he enrolled at Stetson College in Boston. He eventually transferred to the University of Maine in Orono, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Wayne built a camp on Long Island in Blue Hill Bay, where he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, clam digging and plenty of camaraderie with family and friends.

He was active in coaching local youth baseball. He enjoyed attending all of his children and grandchildren sporting events.

In the past 20 years, he and his wife, Helaine, spent their winters in Florida relaxing and entertaining. Wayne loved jai-alai and horse racing.

Wayne was a lifetime Freemason and brother of the Ira Berry Lodge No. 128 and Anah Temple Shrine. He was also a member of the Blue Hill Oddfellows Lodge No. 79. Many were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Wayne is survived by his brother Kermit Allen of Blue Hill, and sister Joan Dillard of Harvard, Mass. and brother-in-law Prin Allen of Brooklin; his sons, John and wife Getti, Paul and partner Janie Greenlaw, Eric and wife, Joan, Spencer and wife, Susan, Tom, his daughters Ruth Allen-Gray and husband, Darrell, Trude Bearsdworth and husband, Jeffrey; grandchildren, Patrick Allen and wife, Monica, Shadi Allen and husband, Chad Seiler, Eben Allen, Golnar Allen and husband Robard Williams, Hannah Williams and husband, Brett, Simeon Allen and wife, Alyssa, Natasha Allen, Brandon Allen and wife, Meaghan, Colby Allen and wife Sophia, Sadie Beardsworth and fiancé Jesse Carter, Madeline Gray, Sidney Beardsworth and Cora Gray; great-grandchildren Lily, Zachary, Gavin, Gabriel, Leila, Jonah and Leo as well as his extended family and treasured friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helaine.

A special thanks goes out to his many caregivers who loved and cared for him, especially Rachel Munson.

A committal will be held with Masonic honors at the Pine Grove Cemetery in North Sedgwick on Sunday July 3, 2016, at 3 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at his home, 75 Sedgwick Ridge Road.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to the North Sedgwick Baptist Church, 155 North Sedgwick Road, Sedgwick, ME 04676.
