David S. Cantor, aged 59, of Timbercreek Canyon, Amarillo, Texas, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019. He passed peacefully in his sleep in the company of family and friends. A celebration of his life was held in April for those who could attend; a graveside service will be held in Eastbrook May 24, 2019, at 4 p.m. Friends are welcome to join the family to continue the celebration of his life.

David was born Dec. 29, 1959, in Dover, Del., to Robert “Bob” and Helen (Wilbur) Cantor. He spent much of his life in his home state of Maine, where he both married his first wife, Carla Moody, on July 27, 1980, and returned to marry his second wife, Bonnie Howard, on June 5, 2013.

Following where his career took him, David lived in numerous places over the years: St. John’s, New Brunswick, Canada; Dover, N.H.; Douglasville, Ga., and finally Amarillo, Texas. He left his mark on all of them, and Amarillo is where he put down what would become his final roots. There he joined many volunteer organizations such as the High Plains Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and he was a mainstay of his close community in Timbercreek Canyon, where he set out American flags for various occasions and volunteered both for the Garden Club and the Timbercreek Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, which he served for some time as the assistant chief.

David was highly respected and loved by those he worked with at the Valero Energy Corp., and had a substantial and memorable impact on their work and in many cases on their lives. He was also well loved in his community, where there were few people who would not count him a friend; never did he truly have an enemy. He was an extremely upstanding man, who lived his entire life in honesty and respect; he unfailingly did all he could to do right by everyone around him.

He was a loving son and brother to the family he was born to; a loving husband and father to the family he raised, and deeply loved by and in love with Bonnie, the woman who stood by him through his last years, cared for him in his final struggle and comforted him as he entered his final rest. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

David was predeceased by his father, Bob Cantor, and his brother Stephen; he is survived by his mother, Helen Cantor, of Franklin; his sons David of Amarillo, Texas, and John of Ellsworth; his sister Marley Ottinger and husband, Mike, of South Carolina; his brother Ken and his wife, Christie, of Texas; brother Lonnie and his wife, Sharon, of Florida, and various nieces, nephews and friends. He also leaves behind his four-legged fur babies: dogs Shaemus and Princess and cats Okie and Blackie.

We will never forget.
