After working in Eastport businesses J.J. Newberry, John Robbins Law Office and Maine Pearl Essence for a number of years, she met and married Rev. Robert Simon in 1968. She was a 55-year honorary lifetime member of the Seaside Temple of Pythian Sisters and the Order of Eastern Star. The Simons retired to Ellsworth in 2004.
Predeceased by her parents, brother Arthur Varney of Eastport and husband Robert Simon, survivors include her son Brooks (Tim) Simon, her daughter, Patricia Chubbuck and husband, Kenneth, granddaughters Deanna Hoskins and husband, Christopher, Ashley Wood and husband, Elijah, and her beloved great-grandson, Watson (son of Deanna and Christopher). Harriet’s many friends and family will miss her dearly.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the warmth and kindness shown to Harriet and family by the many medical and hospice staff members during her treatment. They would especially like to thank her angels, Wendy and Heidi, whom Harriet truly adored, for their affectionate care.
At Harriet’s request, a graveside memorial will take place at a later date, where both she and husband Robert Simon will be laid to rest together in a joint burial in their final resting place of Hillside Cemetery, Eastport.
