
Franklin
Elmer G. Meader passed away on March 20, 2019, at home after a long illness. He had just turned 63. Elmer was the son of Merle and Carolyn Meader of Northeast Harbor. Elmer is survived by his longtime close friend Hope C. Casey of Franklin, his sister Marilyn Lynk and her partner Charles H. Haynes of Seal Cove and his niece Katherine A. Lawson and her husband, David R. Lawson, and their daughter Merris of Hancock. Also Hope’s daughter Cassady H. Casey and husband, Chris Roose, and their son Miles C. Roose and numerous extended family and friends.
Elmer graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in Bar Harbor. He then worked on a sailing vessel, the Fandango, where he worked as a deckhand helping sail under Captain Hans Hoff. This was the beginning of learning to become a competent sailor. He also was in the commercial fishing industry. He had his own lobster boat. He worked in numerous hotels and resorts. Elmer went to the Kodak School for Photography and the Time Life School of Photography. He ended up doing wedding photos and children’s portraits, etc. Elmer ended up working for Maine Coast Sea Vegetables in Franklin for numerous years doing all sorts of jobs there. Elmer loved to go camping, fishing, looking for rocks and working in the woods. Elmer also loved gardening. He enjoyed making things out of wood, especially out of birch. Elmer had fun playing with little kids. He always had some special toys for the kids. Elmer loved feeding the birds, especially the hummingbirds. Elmer’s illness definitely made his life hard to keep up with. We would like to thank all his friends, family, doctors and nurses who tried their best to help him.
