BLUE HILL – Alma B. Gray, widow of Gaylor A. “Mike” Gray, died peacefully Tuesday May 31, 2016.

She was born in Woodbury, Conn., March 21, 1925. She graduated from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, and came to Maine to work at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She spent her entire career, spanning over 40 years, caring for the people of the Blue Hill Peninsula region.

She retired reluctantly in 1986, returning to her home and family two doors down from the hospital.

Alma is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Scholl, and her husband, Harrison; her son, Scott, and his husband, Edward; three granddaughters, Tanya, Heather and Allisan; five great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Jan Giroux; and countless friends, neighbors and co-workers. Alma also had a special relationship with Joyce Hopkins, which lasted a lifetime.

She was predeceased by her husband in August 2012.

Alma was able to achieve her wish of remaining in her own home later in life, thanks to the superb support of her caregivers Shirley, Anita, Lori, and Sharri (The Girls). They along with Scott and Edward, who moved in with her near the end, took every means to make her later life as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., July 31, 2016, at the Gray Family Cemetery, 892 Kingdom Road, Blue Hill.

Gifts in Alma’s memory can be directed to the Gray Family Cemetery Trust, c/o Lisa Veazie, Bar Harbor Banking and Trust, Main Street, Blue Hill, ME 04614.
