ELLSWORTH
Sheila Elizabeth (Jordan) Batson, 87, passed away peacefully following a brief illness. She was born March 8, 1931, in Bar Harbor, the second child of Lawrence Shelton Jordan Sr. and Mabel Elizabeth (Black) Jordan.
Sheila was a hard worker, beginning in her early teens at Stinson Canning Co. She did CNA work at Maplecrest Nursing Home before they were even called CNAs. Sheila worked at a leather tanning factory, then worked several years at Hancock County Extension Service. She worked in the galley at NSGA, Winter Harbor, where she made many friends and helped prepare good food, especially her famous biscuits. Sheila later worked at other nursing facilities and did home private duty. She also worked in a blueberry factory. Sheila was never afraid to tackle a hard job to make ends meet.
Sheila is survived by her brother Robert (Bob) Jordan and his wife, Gina, in Stow, Mass. Sheila and Bob spoke by phone once or twice a week, sharing old memories, a good laugh and even funny cards. She also leaves two sisters-in-law, Faye Jordan and Linda Jordan. Linda spent many hours doing jigsaw puzzles at Sheila’s Meadow View apartment. She is survived by daughter, Peggy Tracy and husband, Dana, son Harold Batson and wife, Ann, son Michael Batson and wife, Kathie; five grandchildren, Ben Tracy and wife, Jessica, Bill Tracy and wife, Melody, Stephen Batson, Kali Ellis and husband, Billy, and Kourtney Maddox and husband, Justin; eight great-grandchildren, Keaton, Lydia, Marnie, Ruby, Piper, Fin, Bostyn and Raelin. She also leaves her sweet cat, Missy-Squeak, and friends, Phyllis, Barbara, Norma, and Sylvia.
Sheila was predeceased by sister, Janet Torrey and brothers, Lawrence Jr., Richard and Frank Jordan.
Her family is thankful to Northern Light Maine Coast ER and ICU, where Sheila received excellent care and compassion. We would also like to thank Pastor Gerry Dill for his faithfulness during this difficult time.
A service will be announced in the spring. Gifts in Sheila’s memory may be made to Make a Wish Maine, 66 Mussey Rd., Scarborough, ME 04074.
